Bee on a Passion Flower
An unusual Passiflora subpeltata (White Passion Flower) plays host to a visiting Apis mellifera (European Honey bee) , spot-lit so well in the sunlight of early afternoon on a summer day. Just a dusting of the lowest powered fill flash was used to better illuminate the bee.
The shot was made alongside a track in the southern fringe of Sea Acres Nature Reserve , Port Macquarie , NSW, Australia.
Both flower and bee are feral escapees from the garden and apiary and both are causing havoc among Australia’s native species. It seems a quirk of Nature that things so beautiful can cause such damage outside their natural environment.
