Eggs on Red
THE SUBJECT:
The eggs of an unknown Butterfly or Moth and their shadows contrast so well with the bright red background and make a very unusual abstract.
THE LOCATION:
At a Port Macquarie Panthers Camera Club friends property at Kundabung between Kempsey and Port Macquarie, NSW, Australia on a bright and sunny early autumn afternoon.
THE MAKING of ‘Eggs on Red’:
My mate was walking with me to my car after a great day’s photography when he spotted this unusual sight on the door of my li’l red VW Polo Hatch. While he went back to the house to get his camera I rattled off a few shots for the record.
The only trouble in making the shot was to find the right angle to get the shadows of the eggs clearly, keep mine and my camera’s shadows out of frame and prevent any glare from the duco.
Fuji S9600: RAW, Super macro, Manual settings of f/3.8 @ 1/800sec, Manual focus, ISO80, Hand held.
Lightroom 2.2 & Photoshop CS3.

UPDATE: 4-10-09
My eye popping red image was submitted, (along with those from twently nine other people), for display and critique at a Creative Photography Workshop held by Professor Des Crawley. The image was mentioned twice during the weekend in very glowing terms and received the great man’s “blessing”. He could not though work out just what it is so I put him out of his misery at the end of the workshop.
Enjoy!
